Golf Earning Votes in Latest Bushnell/Golfweek National Poll

Quakers highlighted several career-bests at Jekyll Island Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. – The (RV) Guilford College men's golf team showed consistency in their play in one of the most nationally recognized tournaments in the NCAA DIII level, awarding the Quakers their second-straight week of receiving votes in the latest edition of the Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches poll, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) recently.

Led by Old Dominion Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) ranked sophomore Braeden Gillen (Holly Springs, N.C.), Guilford maintained their ground in scoring consistently throughout the tournament against the nation's premier competition. During the opening 36 Holes, Gillen would fire a 75 (+3) in the first two rounds before recording his career-best collegiate 18-hole round of 70 (-2) in round three. This would result in Gillen positioning T-68th, after tallying a 220 (+4) individual score, moving up 30 spots after the conclusion of Sunday's final round. Laresen Gallimore (Walnut Cove, N.C.) opened the tournament with his collegiate-best 18-hole score of 72 (E), on the back of birdies on the par-4 thirteenth and the par-5 eighteenth. Gallimore would continue his success in the final two rounds of action to fire a 222 (+6), placing in T-83rd overall. Andrew Perry (Fuquay Varina, N.C.) has been lights out throughout his junior season, establishing strong momentum in the opening two rounds of action, logging a 72 (E) in both days, keeping himself in prime position in the leaderboard. Perry would falter slightly before bouncing back in the final round to tabulate a 221 (+5) individual score to mark out in T-77th place. Guilford fell back out of the T-18th position after 36 holes of play, failing to gain any ground at the conclusion of the final round for a top-20 team result.

Domination has not been a problem for No. 1 nationally-ranked Huntington College, holding the top spot for the third-straight week after another controlling victory, logging an 826 (-38) team score in the Jekyll Island Invitational over No. 2 nationally-ranked Washington and Lee University and No. 5 nationally-ranked Sewanee University, each firing 836 (-28) and an 839 (-25) as squads respectively. No 18 nationally-ranked University of Lynchburg adds themselves to the nation's premier teams alongside the nationally-recognized Generals as the lone ODAC competition ahead of Guilford in the top-25. The Quakers rank slightly ahead of Hampden-Sydney College, who matches Guilford in receiving votes.

Guilford will compete in an individual tournament, sending Larsen Gallimore, Lucas Falcone (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), and Samanyu Bedi (Pinehurst, N.C.) to clash at the Glenn Heath Memorial hosted by The Apprentice School on Monday, March 30th, through Tuesday, March 31st, at Williamsburg Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va.
