Gillen Nabs Career Milestones, (RV) Golf Finishes 13th At Sam Snead Collegiate

Peach matches career-best 18-hole score in opener

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The (RV) Guilford College men's golf team concluded the regular season finale in 13th position against top-caliber opponents within the NCAA Division III level at the Sam Snead Collegiate, hosted by Piedmont University, on Monday through Tuesday at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club on the Gold Course.

Battling it out against the nation's best, No. 3 nationally-ranked Carnegie-Mellon University was victorious with an 866 (+2) team score, holding an eight-stroke lead over No. 6 nationally-ranked Methodist University, concluding with an 874 (+10) team score. No. 3 nationally-ranked Carnegie-Mellon University's David Zhang won the individual medalist for the tournament, being the lone player in the field scoring in red figures in all three rounds, recording a 204 (-9) individual score. No. 18 nationally-ranked University of Lynchburg, Averett University, Randolph-Macon College, and (RV) Hampden-Sydney College posted ahead of Guilford on the leaderboard, corralling team scores of 897 (+33), 901 (+37), 904 (+40), and 909 (+45), respectively. Shenandoah University was taken down by the Quakers, with the Hornets yielding a 914 (+50) as a squad, with Guilford tabulating a 912 (+48) overall.

Braeden Gillen (Holly Springs, N.C.) would begin his match firing a solid 73 (+1), recording four birdies throughout the round, three being on the front nine. In the afternoon clash, Gillen would log a new career-best one-round score, recording a 68 (-3) on the back of birdies on the par-4 eleventh, par-5 fifteenth, along with an albatross on the par-5 fifth to conclude day one tied for second place. Gillen would ultimately polish his career-best three-round total of 218 (+5), finalizing his career-best placement, tied for 10th with Guilford.

Gavin Peach (Charlotte, N.C.) would follow suit, matching his career-low 18-hole round of 70 (-1), cashing in on four birdie chances in total, two being on each nine. Peach would record three more birdies in the afternoon stanza before faltering slightly with two doubles and a triple to collect a 78 (+7) heading into the final day. Peach collected several shots back in Tuesday's closing round for a 223 (+10) 54-hole total, tying for 32nd in the match.

Andrew Perry (Fuquay Varina, N.C.) had several slipups throughout his first two rounds of action, failing to get off the bogey train while corralling a comeback off birdies on the par-4 fifth and par-4 eighteenth to fire an 80 (+9). Perry would ultimately tie Peach in round two, counting towards the team score, improving off birdies on the par-5 sixth and the par-3 sixteenth to collect a 78 (+7) in the afternoon clash. Perry shaved off an additional four strokes in Tuesday's ultimate clash, logging a 232 (+19), tying for 76th on the leaderboard.

Luke Wise's (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) morning-round score would not be included in the team total, logging an 88 (+17). Wise displayed the most improvement during the event, shaving off 16 strokes with three birdies for a 72 (+1) in round two. Wise maintained control in Tuesday's final round, concluding the tournament with a 235 (+22) total score to tie for 87th respectively.

Larsen Gallimore (Walnut Cove, N.C.) established consistencies throughout the opening two battles, establishing birdies on the par-4 fourth and the par-4 ninth to collect an 81 (+11) in the morning stage. Gallimore rolled to several par runs in the closing moments of the middle stanza, sealing a 77 (+6). Gallimore's score did not count toward the team total during the final round, snagging a 237 (+24) individual score and tying for 95th overall.

Guilford will head into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship next week, on Sunday, April 19th, through Tuesday, April 21st, at Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Va.
