Giannopoulou Makes National Ballot, Ajayi, Scott Also Named CSC Academic All-District For Women’s Basketball

Senior forward advances for chance at Academic All-America recognition

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) cracked the national ballot for a chance to earn Academic All-American status while Hannah Ajayi (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) made it trio of members of the Guilford College women's basketball team recognized on the Collegiate Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team for their performance as students and athletes, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

In order to qualify for the honor in basketball, student-athletes must be at least an academic and athletic sophomore, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher in the classroom. Meanwhile, a nominee must have competed in 90% of the team's total games played, or start in 66% of the team's total games. No more than four student-athletes may be a nominee in basketball per school, per gender.

What a resurgence 2025-26 was for the senior, Giannopoulou, returning to form as a D3hoops.com All-Region Second Team and All-ODAC First Team performer. She is littered throughout the national leaderboard, with top-20 ranks for total blocks and blocks per game, standing 19th in both while pacing the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in swats per contest at 2.35. Additionally, she finished 49th in double-doubles with 11, 57th in defensive rebounds per game, with 7.1, and 99th in total caroms per contest at 9.1, among several other top-200 marks. The ODAC's number-six scorer, the forward started all 26 games and also paced the Quakers in scoring with an average of 15.8 on top of rebounding and blocks. In addition, she finished third on the team in assists, with 54, and steals, with 57 while shooting .439/.310/.739. Off the court, Giannopoulou boasts a 3.79 GPA as a double-major studying both Biology and Health Sciences at Guilford. The ODAC/Va. Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Giannopoulou already received recognition at the conference level for excellence on and off the court, but now goes on for further potential accolades, being selected as one of 118 players nationally to advance to the national ballot and be in the running for CSC Academic All-American honors. She is one of just four players from the ODAC to move on with a chance at Academic All-America distinction, with the national ballot factoring in an athlete's academic and athletic achievement, in addition to their leadership on-and-off the hardwood.

Scott, repeats as a CSC Academic All-District pick after enjoying a breakout 2025-26 campaign. The ODAC leader in steals and steals per game, with 70 total for a 2.69 per game average, ranking 78th and 77th in the country, Scott exploded in the second half of league play. Netting a 37-point outburst against Randolph-Macon that put her in the program's top-10 for single-game scoring Scott was brilliant offensively and while she was bumped out of the national top-200 for total tallies over the course of postseason competition, she did finish seventh in the league and second on the team in scoring average at 14.0. A frequent-flier to the line, Scott ranked 100th nationally in free throw makes and 114th in tries at the line with 93 and 123 respectively, ranking fifth in the ODAC in each and resulting in a .756 conversion rate at the stripe, fourth-best in the ODAC and 162nd-best in the nation. Across 26 games, all starts, Scott shot .368/.247/.756, grabbed 4.1 rebounds per game, blocked 22 shots, second-most on the team, and distributed 64 assists, also second-most. Academically, the junior possesses a 3.77 GPA in GC's Exercise & Sport Sciences program.

Ajayi is the third Quaker to receive Academic All-District distinction at the end of a sophomore season that saw her emerge as an invaluable member of the GC rotation. An active and energizing defender, Ajayi played in all 26 contests this winter for the Quakers and performed so well that she earned her first-collegiate start by the season's conclusion. Statistically unimposing, finishing eighth on the team in total points, with 61, and ninth in points per game, with 2.3, and total rebounds, with 45, the Chapel Hill native is one of those players whose value does not always show up on the box score. She led Quaker reserves in steals per 30 minutes with a mark of 1.75 after snagging 17 in just 290 minutes. She also blocked two shots, dished 16 assists, and claimed 17 offensive rebounds among her 45 total this season while shooting .278/.214/.500. In the classroom, Ajayi is a standout as well, posting a flawless 4.00 GPA as a double-major in Business and Art.
