Women’s Basketball Bested by Fourth-Seeded Shenandoah in ODAC Quarterfinals

Giannopoulou held dominant in 19-point outing, falling just shy of a comeback

WINCHESTER, Va. - The fifth-seeded Guilford College women's basketball team (18-8, 9-7 ODAC) saw their season come to a close in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Quarterfinals against fourth-seeded Shenandoah University (20-6, 11-5 ODAC). After climbing back late in the fourth off two last minutes three pointers, Guilford would fall short, 60-61, inside the James R. Wilkins Jr., Athletics & Events Center on Wednesday evening.

Both teams maintained their ground throughout the back-and-forth affair, as the Quakers would shoot .386 (22-57) from the field and .714 (10-14) from the line compared to the Hornets launching .381 (24-63) from the field and .700 (7-10) from the line. Shenandoah held control throughout the entirety of regulation, with early scoring in the contest, holding the lead for just over 37 minutes in the clash.

Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) kept the Quakers in momentum with the Hornets from her 19-point performance. Giannopoulou sustained many scoring opportunities from shooting .412 (7-17) from the field and 1.000 (3-3) from the arc. Defensively, Giannopoulou snagged eight rebounds, six on the defensive-side, with one block and one steal. Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) would follow suit with 11 points, launching .333 (4-12) from the field and .750 (3-4) from the line. Scott scooped up five rebounds, two assists, one block, and two steals throughout the battle. Karly Glahn (Charlotte, N.C.) recorded eight points, firing .400 (2-5) of her shots from the field, .500 (1-2) from the arc, and .750 (3-4) from the line.

Brynna Nesselrodt commanded the court for Shenandoah, logging 19 points from shooting .500 (7-14) from the field and .833 (5-6) from the arc, with one steal in the process. Emily Williams collected all possible opportunities for the Hornets to strike on defense, accumulating six steals, two blocks, and eight defensive rebounds. Williams would record 18 points on the offensive side of the ball, shooting .462 (6-13) from the field and .750 (6-8) from the line.

Skai Bayless would commence the scoring for Shenandoah with multiple jumpers. However, Evelyn George (Hillsborough, N.C.) and Elly Trickett (Greer, S.C.) would land back-to-back threes to keep Guilford in the game, only trailing 20-18 through one period.

A defensively dominant second period would ensue, with both squads exchanging possessions through turnovers. The Hornets would hang on by a thread heading into the half, 35-27, on the back of late jumpers from Williams, Nesselrodt, and Jessica Littlejohn.

Scott and Giannopoulou would propel the Quakers out of the half from a ruling-performance offensively, cutting Guilford's deficit back to seven, 46-39, heading into the final period.

Coming down to the final moments of regulation, Glahn and Giannopoulou would both land threes from long-range, however, falling shy of capturing the victory through Shenandoah matching Guilford's performance, 61-60 in favor of the Hornets.

Shenandoah advances to Salem, Va., for the ODAC Semifinals, where they will face top-seeded Washington & Lee University, who defeated Roanoke College. For Guilford, this concludes their 2025-26 season.
