FOREST, Va. – Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) was named Second Team All-Region 6 by D3hoops.com representing the Guilford College women's basketball team, as announced by the publication on Monday morning.
The honor is the second in the Greek forward's decorated Quakers career, after being picked to the Third Team back as a sophomore, joining pretty exclusive company in the process. Already just one-of-seven Guilford women's basketball players to be named All-Region by D3hoops.com, Giannopoulou becomes the fourth multi-time honoree at the regional level, joining Gabby Oglesby '14, Anais Weatherly '17, and most recently, Lindsay Gauldin '23.
What a season it was for the All-ODAC First Team selection, making an enormous impact on both ends as GC's leading scorer, rebounder, and shot-blocker in an 18-8 campaign. Finishing the regular season ranked sixth in the conference and 18
th in the region in points per game, with 15.8, as well as sixth in the ODAC and 11
th in region in caroms, nabbing 9.1 per contest, Giannopoulou's calling card was as the top shot-blocker in Region 6. Sending back 61 total shots at a rate of 2.35 per game, she ranked 18
th and 19
th in the nation respectively in those stats at the regular season's conclusion. Along the way, she picked up 11 double-doubles, a total that is within the top-50 nationally and top-10 regionally, claimed 7.1 defensive rebounds per game, good for 57
th in the country and seventh in the region, and shot a quality .439/.310/.739 rate from the floor. The Virginia Farm Bureau/ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and five-time conference Defensive Player of the Week was also named the National Player of the Week by USBWA in December.
A loaded year in ODAC women's basketball, seven of the 16 All-Region picks resided in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) this season, among them Region 6 Player of the Year, Mary Schleusner from Washington & Lee University. Giannopoulou sits in the middle of the league's honorees as Bridgewater's Riley Corcoran and Shenandoah's Addisyn Banks were picked to the first team alongside Schleusner. Brianna Long from Virginia Wesleyan joined Giannopoulou on the All-Region Second Team with W&L guard Quinn McGuinness and Randolph-Macon's McKenzie Matheny making the Third Team.
