Volleyball’s Stellar Season Concludes in Hard-Fought Quarterfinal at No. 3 Bridgewater

Alcantara tallies 10 kills as Guilford battles No. 3 Eagles to close 18-win campaign

Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The sixth-seeded Guilford College volleyball team (18-8, 6-5 ODAC) wrapped up its 2025 season Tuesday night, falling 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-20) to third-seeded Bridgewater College (20-7, 8-3 ODAC) in the ODAC Quarterfinals. The Quakers entered the match coming off a regular-season upset of the Eagles in late October, but Bridgewater flipped the script on its home court behind a strong offensive showing that featured a .388 team hitting percentage.

Chrisbel Alcantara (San Juan, Puerto Rico) powered the Quakers with a team-high 10 kills, while Natalie Moore (Talbott, Tenn.) added seven. Jillian Mapes (Hodges, S.C.) dished out 24 assists and collected nine digs.

The Eagles were led by Faith DePew's 13 kills, Maya Veselinovic's 15 assists, and Anna Black's 19 digs.

The opening set was a tightly contested battle, with Guilford hanging close throughout. Alcantara fueled the Quaker attack with five kills in the frame, while Madison Duvall (Sophia, N.C.) and Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) sparked momentum from the service line with a pair of aces each. Despite a late push, Bridgewater closed out the set 25-21.

The Eagles maintained control in the second, building an early lead and never looking back en route to a 25-13 win. Duvall and Moore added key kills, but Bridgewater's efficient offense proved difficult to slow.

Guilford showed fight in the third, jumping ahead early and holding the lead until an 11-11 tie. The teams traded points before Bridgewater strung together a late run to seal the match, 25-20.

The loss concludes a stellar season for the Quakers, who posted an 18-8 regular season record—one of the program's best in recent years—while earning a conference tournament bid under first-year Head Coach Miron.
