GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Guilford College swimming team competed on Saturday morning at The Royce Reynolds Family Student Center Pool in a tri-meet against Greensboro College and Hollins University. The Quakers fell in both matches, losing to Greensboro College, 102-60, and Hollins University, 176-35.
Representing the Quakers were
Knox Butka (Pinehurst, N.C.),
Emma Butts (Asheville, N.C.),
Bec Cormack (Forest Park, Ill.),
Alex Fox (Concord, N.C.), and
Josie Hemmer (Green Bay, Va.).
The Quakers opened the meet with a strong performance in the 200-yard Medley Relay. The team of Fox, Butts, Hemmer, and Cormack battled hard to secure a third-place finish with a time of 2:34.23. Later in the meet, the same quartet returned for the 200-yard Free Relay, earning another third-place result with a time of 2:15.50.
Individually, Hemmer delivered strong finishes in two events. She placed second in the grueling 1000-yard Free, notching a time of 15:41.24, and followed up with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard IM, clocking in at 3:04.74.
Fox matched Hemmer's strong showing across multiple events. In the 100-yard Back, the freshman earned a solid third-place finish with a time of 1:24.46. Fox also competed in the 500-yard Free, securing another third-place result with a time of 7:08.63.
Butts continued her strong season with impressive performances in three individual events. She placed third in the 100-yard Breast with a time of 1:39.62 and earned fourth in the 100-yard Free with a time of 1:12.53. Her consistent efforts have made her a valuable asset to the team in both solo and relay events.
Butka delivered steady performances, competing in the 50-yard Free and finishing fifth with a time of 37.14. She also swam the 100-yard Back, securing another fifth-place finish with a time of 1:42.93.
The Quakers will return to action soon as they travel back to Greensboro College for their final meet of the regular season on Saturday, January 25. Start time is to be determined.
