SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Guilford College women's swim team kicked off their season traveling to Prothro Natatorium to compete in a tri-meet, hosted by Sweet Briar College on Friday afternoon. Despite tough competition, the Quakers emerged with a narrow victory over Sweet Briar, 104-98 and fell to Hollins, 160-65.
Representing the Quakers were
Corbin Jacocks, Lainey Crafton (Summerville, S.C.),
Josie Hemmer (Greenbay, Va),
Tessa Alton, Emma Butts (Asheville, N.C.), and
Bec Cormack (Forest Park,I.L),
Knox Butka (Pinehurst, N.C) and
Alex Fox.
Jacocks led the Quakers with an outstanding debut, achieving two first-place finishes, earning 19 points overall. She competed in three events, beginning with the 100 Backstroke, where she posted a time of 1:23.96, securing first place. In the 100m Breaststroke, in which, she recorded a 1:55.04, finishing fifth, and rounded out her day with another top finish in the 100 Free with a time of 1:14.69.
Hemmer contributed notably in two events. She placed second in the 200 Back with a time of 3:28.13, followed by a third-place finish in the 400 Freestyle at 6:12.82, contributing a total of seven points to the Quakers' score.
Alton competed in three events and placed third in the 100 Back at 1:35.32 and the 50 Free (37.49). In her third event, the 100 Free, she recorded a time of 1:28.80, securing a fifth-place finish. Alton finished by contributing seven points to the team's total.
Crafton was a part of two races, securing second in the 200 Breaststroke, with a time of 3:32.74 and fourth place in the 200 Free, posting a time of 3:04.45. The sophomore contributed six points for Guilford.
Butts competed in two races, securing two fourth place finishes in her respective races. In the 100 Breast, she posted a time of 1:54.93 and in her other race, she finished with a time of 38.77. The freshman contributed four points overall for the Quakers.
Cormack secured two fifth place finishes, alongside a personal best in her third race. In the 800 Free, she secured a time of 15:10.15, in the 400 Free , she earned a time of 7:18.34. In her final race, the junior earned a personal best, securing a time of 39.59 in the 50 Free.
In the relay portion of the competition, The Quakers participated in two events, earning first place in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 2:26.11 and earning a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 2:50.79.
The Quakers will look to build on this strong start as they continue their season, traveling to Greensboro College on Saturday, November 2
nd. Meet time is to be determined.
