HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set started off with a bit of momentum as the Quakers and Panthers traded points. The visitors were able to string together three points to take a 6-5 lead, a short-lived advantage, as Devyn Norman and Kaitlyn Kelley combined for a block to even the score. GC was able to force a Ferrum timeout as the scoreboard read 8-6. The Panthers were able to pull ahead on a long rally, 18-17, to force a Quaker timeout. Guilford claimed the set with a score of 25-23, as Kelley and Vanessa Johnson put up a big block.
Set two went much the same, with the pair trading blows with multi-point runs. At one point, Ferrum owned a five-point advantage (16-9). A service error and two Adison Needham kills switched momentum and helped for Guilford to begin its upward trend. The score was knotted a few times in the late goings, but GC was able to claim its second win of the night on a kill by Norman and a FC error, 26-24.
It appeared that the Panthers had found their footing, owning the lead for nearly half of the third set. The final rallies were incredibly intense as the Quakers attempted to put the opposition to sleep, while they wanted to force a fifth set. The score was 22-24, but Ferrum was able to prolong the inevitable on a kill. Guilford closed out the night on a block from Needham and Johnson.
