HOW IT HAPPENED

The first two sets of the contest both closed with scores of 25-8 in favor of the hosts. Guilford owned a 3-1 lead to open the match, which was given to them on a trio of VWU errors. It was Hannah Stout who led GC through the first stanza, owning two kills and one service ace. The squad's other five points came off errors.

Set two's story read much the same, playing close to kick it off, but relinquishing control quickly.  Of its eight points, the Quakers earned four, on a trio of Adison Needham kills and a Sydney Hopewell service ace.

The final set of the day proved to be the most competitive by far, despite GC trailing to start. A five-point run by Guilford brought the teams to even (10-10). Powering the run was a pair of Needham kills, two service aces by Stout and a kill by Cam Blankenship

Following this development, the squads began trading points. The Marlins were able to begin to pull away on a five-point run of their own (21-16), which was stopped by kills from Hopewell and Vanessa Johnson. The Quakers posted 3-straight points to make it 22-21, but too little, too late. They dropped the set 25-22.

TOP PERFORMING QUAKERS
