Box Score SALEM, Va. – Kelly Williams totaled 22 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks in Randolph-Macon College's 68-50 victory over Guilford College in Sunday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament final. Williams, the 2019 ODAC Player of the Year, also earned the ODAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player for the second time in her career.
The Yellow Jackets (18-9) captured their 10th league title and earned the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament with their ninth straight win. Randolph-Macon will learn its national tournament pairing when the 64-team field is announced Monday, March 2.
Guilford, which made its sixth ODAC tournament final appearance in nine years, ended its season with a 17-10 mark.
Riding the interior play of Williams and fellow senior Michal Ross (16 points), Randolph-Macon raced to a 13-2 lead and never looked back. Williams had 12 points and 10 boards by halftime, which helped the Yellow Jackets to a sizable advantage in inside scoring. For the game, they outscored Guilford, 38-26, in the paint and held a 38-25 rebounding advantage.
Seeded seventh in the 10-team tournament field, Guilford rallied to within six points at the end of the first quarter and trailed, 35-30, 57 seconds before halftime after a Calyn Davis three-pointer. A Williams' layup just before the horn gave the Yellow Jackets a 37-30 halftime lead.
After Davis' basket, Randolph-Macon clamped down and kept the Quakers scoreless for the next six-and-a-half minutes. The Yellow Jackets built a 48-30 margin behind Williams, Ross, and sharpshooter Becca Arrington. Randolph-Macon outscored Guilford, 16-4, in the third quarter and took a 53-34 lead into the final frame.
Ross and Arrington both scored 16 points for Randolph-Macon. Arrington made 6-of-9 shots, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. Ross, Cheridan Hatfield (4 points, 5 rebounds), and Williams earned all-tournament honors. The Yellow Jackets shot 49.1 percent from the floor, the second-highest figure by a Guilford opponent this season.
Lindsay Gauldin led Guilford with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists. She joined Miracle Walters (12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) as Guilford's representatives on the All-ODAC Tournament team. Davis added nine points and five rebounds.
The loss marked the final game for Guilford seniors Julie Carini (4 points, 6 rebounds), Alli Jackson (3 points), and Walters. The trio helped Guilford to an 80-27 record over the past four seasons, which included an ODAC tournament title and NCAA playoff berth in 2017. Walters, one of six Quakers in program history to earn three straight All-ODAC commendations, concluded her career ranked 13th in school history with 1,177 points. She also set Guilford's career field-goal percentage (.556) record.
Coach Stephanie Flamini is slated to return 11 letter winners to the team next season.
