Guilford Women's Lacrosse Falls to St. Mary's (Md.) in Puerto Rico, 17-6

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – Meg Gesner scored three goals and two assists in the St. Mary's College of Maryland's 17-6 lacrosse win over Guilford College Monday morning at the Bayamon Soccer Complex 2.

The Seahawks (6-0) used a 9-0 second-half run to expand a 6-4 lead. Gesner had a goal and two assists during the 17-minute outburst, which gave St. Mary's a 15-4 edge with 10:25 to play. Lacey Brown tallied both of her goals during the run.

Gesner and Brown were among five different Seahawks who netted two or more tallies. Shelby Newman notched four points on two goals and two assists. Abbey Harrison and Taylor Sartor also scored twice. Goalie Kayla Dunn won her sixth straight decision and recorded eight saves, plus two ground balls. Brynn Miller paced the Seahawks with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kerri Kline picked up a game-best four draw controls.

Demming Carlow's two first-half goals paced Guilford's offense. After she scored the opening score, she netted her second 13:20 before halftime, which tied the game at 3-3. Guilford's Summer Fowler caused a game-high five turnovers and collected three ground balls and two draw controls. Carter MacLeod led all students with six ground balls. The Quakers' Amanda Dionne collected a goal and shared game-high honors with four draws. Sammi Milbourn made a number of early saves that kept Guilford close and finished with eight stops before yielding to Sarah Sedaghat for the final 5:25.

The Quakers play their second and final game in Puerto Rico Wednesday (3/16) against Lasell College.
