GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College women's lacrosse team (4-5, 0-2 ODAC) snapped a two-game skid on Tuesday afternoon, securing a decisive 17-8 non-conference victory over Warren Wilson College (4-7, 0-0 C2C) at Appenzeller Field. The Quakers showcased elite efficiency, finishing 14-of-15 on clear attempts and drawing eight free-position shots in the win.
Marlene Nusraty (Damascus, Md.) earned the win in goal, making five saves while contributing four ground balls and two caused turnovers. On the other side of the field, Madison Date stayed busy in the cage, recording 13 saves.
Warren Wilson's effort was paced by Callie Aerni, who found the back of the net four times, and Sydney Weber, who added three goals and an assist.
Emma Garland (Hampstead, N.C.) led Guilford with four goals, while
Hannah McMasters (Browns Summit, N.C.) and
Carm DeFeo (Shelton, Conn.) each recorded hat tricks.
Kylie Wood (Greensboro, N.C.) proved to be a vital playmaker, finishing with a team-high five points on two goals and three assists. A major highlight of the afternoon was the performance of
Kennedy Gates (Cornelius, N.C.), who set a new career-high with three goals. Rounding out the scoring for the Quakers were
Chanelle Fossie (Westampton, N.J.) and
Emily Parker (Lillington, N.C.) with one goal each.
Kaylee Carr (Plant City, Fla.) also contributed to the offensive spread with an assist.
Guilford's offense was firing on all cylinders early, outscoring the Owls 7-1 in the first quarter.
The Quakers maintained their lead in the second frame as Gates and Garland both netted goals, heading into halftime 9-2.
Despite a four-goal third-period push by the Owls, McMasters stayed steady with two strikes to keep Guilford ahead 11-6 entering the final 15 minutes.
Guilford punctuated the victory with a six-goal fourth quarter. Garland and Fossie scored back-to-back goals in a ten-second span, while Gates added two more to secure her career milestone. DeFeo and Wood capped the scoring with free-position goals to seal the result, 17-8.
The Quakers will look to carry this momentum as they jump right back into conference play on Saturday, March 28th, hosting Shenandoah University. The opening draw is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
