Garland Grabs 100th Career Point, Women’s Lacrosse Overpowers Greensboro

Garland hits 100-point milestone and Gates scores career-high four goals in rivalry showdown

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College women's lacrosse team (5-6, 0-3 ODAC) delivered a fantastic performance on Tuesday afternoon, defeating cross-town rival Greensboro College (2-10, 1-4 USA South) 25-2 at Appenzeller Field. In their final non-conference matchup of the season, the Quakers showcased a relentless offense and a stifling defense that limited the Pride to just five total shots.

Marlene Nusraty (Damascus, Md.) earned the win in the cage, playing the full 60 minutes and maintaining a clean .500 save rate with two stops. On the Greensboro side, Carly Walton tallied two saves in the first quarter, while Aaliyah Akers stepped in for the final 45 minutes, recording nine saves.

Greensboro's effort was led by Brynly Manwaring, who paired a goal with three draw controls, and Keira Fenyo, who added a score of her own to go along with a ground ball pickup.

The Quakers' offensive was led by Emma Garland (Hampstead, N.C.), who turned in a historic performance with a career-high 10 draw controls and a game-high seven goals. Kylie Wood (Greensboro, N.C.) was equally lethal, matching her season high with five goals.

Kennedy Gates (Cornelius, N.C.) set a new career high with four goals, while Hannah McMasters (Browns Summit, N.C.) acted as the primary facilitator with a team-high four assists to go along with a hat trick. Chanelle Fossie (Westampton, N.J.) and Carm DeFeo (Shelton, Conn.) each contributed multi-goal efforts, and Re'lla Grissett (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Kaylee Carr (Plant City, Fla.) also added to the tally.

Guilford wasted no time establishing control, jumping out to a massive 9-1 lead in the first quarter. Wood ignited the scoreboard just minutes into the game, followed by a string of goals from the Quakers' starting unit.

The momentum only grew in the second period, as Guilford added seven unanswered goals to carry a 16-1 advantage into the halftime break.

The second half remained all Guilford, as the Quakers outscored the Pride 9-1 over the final 30 minutes. The defensive unit, anchored by Brenna Holden (Kernersville, N.C.) with her season-high five ground balls, stifled any attempt at a Greensboro rally.

The afternoon reached a crescendo at the 8:58 mark of the fourth quarter when Garland found the back of the net for her 100th career point, assisted by Fossie, highlighting the Quakers' 25-2 victory.

The Quakers will look to carry this momentum into their conference schedule; Guilford travels to take on Randolph College on Saturday, April 4th, with the opening draw scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
