Women’s Lacrosse Contends with McDaniel in Midweek Matchup

Nusraty leads defense with career-best 13 ground balls in non-conference challenge

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College women's lacrosse team (3-5, 0-2 ODAC) faced a challenging non-conference test on Wednesday afternoon, falling to McDaniel College (6-3, 0-0 CC) at Appenzeller Field, 16-4. Despite the final score, the Quakers' performance was headlined by a resilient defensive unit that battled through all four quarters.

Marlene Nusraty (Damascus, Md.) was a standout for the Quakers, matching her career-high with 15 saves while facing 27 shots on goal. Nusraty finished the afternoon with a .490 save percentage and set a new career-best with a game-high 13 ground balls. Across the field, the Green Terror utilized a trio of goalkeepers to secure the victory. Caleigh Kohr earned the win with five saves in 45 minutes of work, while Nicole Ruther and Emma Wood combined for 15 minutes of scoreless relief, with Wood turning away one shot.

McDaniel's offense was led by Kat Thayer, who recorded seven goals, and Addison Utterback, who provided seven points on two goals and five assists.

For Guilford, Hannah McMasters (Browns Summit, N.C.) led the scoring effort with two goals, while Emily Parker (Lillington, N.C.) and Carm DeFeo (Shelton, Conn.) each added a goal of their own. DeFeo also remained active on the draw, leading the team with three draw controls. Defensively, Trinity Whitfield (Greensboro, N.C.) anchored the backline, recording a ground ball and a caused turnover to help stifle the Green Terror's transition.

The contest opened with McDaniel taking a 3-0 lead in the first period.

The Quakers found a rhythm in the second quarter, finding the back of the net three times. Parker sparked the momentum with an unassisted goal at the 8:09 mark, followed by late-period strikes from McMasters and DeFeo to send the teams into the half at 9-3.

Despite a pair of caused turnovers from Emma Garland (Hampstead, N.C.) and a goal from McMasters, McDaniel's offense remained productive in the second half, adding seven more tallies to seal the 16-4 result.

Guilford will look to bounce back as they continue their home stand at the Armfield Athletic Center next week. The Quakers are scheduled to host Warren Wilson College on Tuesday, March 24th, with the opening draw set for 2:00 p.m.
