Quakers' Rally Falls Short Versus W&L, 67-56

Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. (1/30/09) - Washington and Lee University's Meghan Ingram scored a game-high 18 points and set the Generals' season three-pointers record in her team's 67-56 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball victory at Guilford College Friday night.

Playing before a hometown crowd, Ingram netted 12 first-half points to spark the Generals (9-8, 8-4 ODAC) to a 37-20 halftime lead. Her three-pointer midway through the opening half moved her past Louisa Feve on the Generals' season trifectas list. Ingram finished with three-pointers on the night, which give her 48 through 17 games.

An Ingram layup with 17:40 left in the game gave the guests a 44-21 edge, their largest of the game, but Guilford (7-11, 6-7 ODAC) mounted two rallies to get back into the game. Tracey Croner's basket with 10:50 left capped a 14-2 Quakers' spurt over the next seven minutes that brought Guilford to within 43-36. Croner tallied nine of her game-high 21 points during the run. Washington and Lee recovered to score six straight points, but a 9-2 Guilford burst later in the period made it a 53-49 game with 5:40 to play. Shevon Hackett scored two inside baskets and Alexa Williams canned a three-pointer to cap the Quakers' spurt.

Guilford's comeback stalled, however, as the home team made managed only three field goals after Williams' trifecta. Washington and Lee finished the game on a 14-7 roll that included 10 of freshman Rebecca Bolton's 16 points. Bolton added 11 rebounds and four assists playing before her hometown crowd. Bethany Ridenhour chipped in with 11 points and Felice Herman added six points and a game-high 14 boards for the Generals.

Croner (left) added a team-high eight rebounds for the Quakers, who forced 27 turnovers, but lost the battle of the boards, 43-29. Williams finished with 13 points off the bench and Alexandria Miles added nine for Guilford.

The contest marked the start of Guilford's Basketball Legacy Weekend. At halftime of the game, Guilford retired the jersey numbers of former women's basketball standouts Elizabeth Parker Haskins '76 and Laura Haynes Spainhour '98. Click here for the full release and photos.
