Box Score Virginia Beach, Va. -- Guilford College limited host Virginia Wesleyan College to 22.7 percent field-goal shooting in Saturday's 67-51 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball victory Saturday afternoon. The Quakers' (9-2, 5-2 ODAC) sixth win in seven games snapped the Marlins' (10-3, 7-1 ODAC) seven-game ODAC winning streak. Virginia Wesleyan recorded its lowest shooting percentage since 2005.
An early 15-4 run opened an 18-7 Guilford lead 8:24 into the game. Virginia Wesleyan managed only seven-of-34 field-goal shooting in the first half as the Quakers built a 31-19 halftime lead. The Marlins missed 17-of-18 first-half three-point attempts and shot three-for-35 (8.6%) from beyond the arc for the game.
Virginia Wesleyan hauled in 13 offensive rebounds in the second half, but continued to misfire from the floor and made only 10-of-41 field goals. Two Heather Phillips free throws pulled the hosts to within 52-44 with five minutes left in regulation, but the Marlins managed only one field goal the rest of the way and the Quakers finished the game on a 12-6 run. Guilford made seven-of-nine free throws in the final 1:44.
Guilford junior Tracey Croner scored 12 of her game-high 20 points in the second half. She and sophomore teammate Alexa Williams shared team-high rebounding honors (8). Guards Jessica Casto and Ann Seufer both added 13 points.
Phillips paced the Marlins with 15 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds, six off the offensive glass. Sophomore guard Tonia Jones contributed 12 points.
Guilford plays its first home game since Dec. 3 when it hosts league-rival Lynchburg College Tuesday night (1/15) at 7:00 p.m. Virginia Wesleyan visits nationally ranked ODAC leader Randolph-Macon College next Saturday (1/19) at 2:00 p.m.
