QUAKERS FALL AT RANDOLPH-MACON, 69-67

 

Ashland, VA (01/03/04) -- Four players scored in double figures to lead Randolph-Macon past Guilford, 69-67, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Saturday. Sophomore guard Megan Silva (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) and junior center Emily Crider (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) each had 16 points. Silva also totaled seven rebounds and game-highs of 10 assists and seven steals. Crider pulled down seven rebounds and blocked two shots. Junior guard Jennie Carter (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) and freshman forward Ashlee Henshaw (Aroda, VA/Madison County) scored 10 points apiece. Carter also had a game and career-high 13 rebounds, plus three assists. Henshaw had five rebounds and two blocked shots.

Randolph-Macon scored the opening basket of the game, but the Quakers led for the rest of the first half. The biggest advantage for Guilford was nine points, 13-4, a little over six minutes into the contest. The Yellow Jackets did not give up, however, and the halftime lead was only three points, 32-29.

The second half was exciting, as it featured five ties and seven lead changes. Neither team led by more than four points. Randolph-Macon went ahead for good on a foul shot by Crider with 9:20 remaining which made the score 51-50. The Yellow Jackets were ahead by as many as nine points, 64-55, with less than five minutes on the clock. But Guilford hung around, reducing the deficit to three points twice in the final minute. A three-pointer by sophomore guard Jennifer King (Reidsville, NC/Rockingham County) at the buzzer made the final margin just two points.

Randolph-Macon enjoyed a 52-26 rebounding advantage.

Guilford was led by senior guard A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead), with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting (80.0%), including 3-of-4 three-pointers (75.0%). Junior forward Courtney Hill (Kannapolis, NC/North Rowan) and senior forward Jennie Keichline (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) each scored 10 points. Hill also had team-highs of five rebounds and five steals. Keichline handed out three assists.
