Box Score Greensboro, NC (02/14/02) -- Guilford captured its first regular-season Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball title Thursday night with a 57-27 win over visiting Hollins. Guilford (21-2, 18-1 ODAC) seeks to defend its ODAC Tournament crown starting next Thursday (2/21) in Salem, VA, as the 2002 tourney's top seed.
The Quakers held Hollins (10-14, 6-13 ODAC) to 14.9 percent shooting from the floor (the lowest total ever by a Guilford opponent) in their 13th straight win. Guilford finished the year with a perfect 10-0 home mark, another school record, and improved to 25-0 all time against Hollins. The Quakers tied a school record with eight blocks in the game.
Guilford scored the game's first 21 points as Hollins did not score until senior forward Mandy Nichols (Troutville, VA/Lord Botentourt) converted two free throws with 6:39 left in the first half. Hollins made one of 20 first-half field-goal attempts and trailed 29-8 at halftime.
Quakers' guard Erin Beacham (Atlanta, GA/Lovett School) led all scorers with 16 points on five-of-seven shooting from the floor, including three-point baskets, which tied a career high. She also grabbed three rebounds to reach 499 for her career. Beacham and classmate Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) (7 points, 6 assists) were honored before the game as part of Guilford's Senior Night festivities.
Guilford rookie Courtney Hill (Kannapolis, NC/North Rowan) added 12 points and a team-best eight boards. Sophomore forward Jennie Keichline (Cary, NC/East Chapel Hill) had six points and a career-high five blocks off the bench for the Quakers. Her 25 blocks this season stand fourth in Guilford history.

Guilford, ranked second in this week's NCAA Division III South Region poll, closes the regular season Saturday (2/16) at ODAC-rival Emory & Henry. A Quakers' victory would tie school records for consecutive wins (14) and victories (22) in a season. Hollins hosts Washington and Lee Saturday (2/16) in a game with significant ODAC Tournament implications.
