QUAKERS REGAIN SHARE OF FIRST IN ODAC WITH WIN OVER LYNCHBURG

Box Score

Greensboro, NC (02/07/01) -- Senior forward Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) scored a game-high 17 points and Guilford held Lynchburg to 25 percent field-goal shooting a 68-35 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win Wednesday.

Guilford's (15-5, 13-3 ODAC) 12th win in 14 games lifted the Quakers into a share of first place in the ODAC standings after Roanoke downed league-leading Emory & Henry Wednesday night.

Thanks to rare four-point plays by junior guard Erin Beacham (Atlanta, GA/Lovett School) and rookie forward Jackie Hardenbergh (Oak Hill, VA/Paul VI), the Quakers raced to an 18-2 lead and led 33-17 at halftime. Junior guard Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) scored all 10 of her points and grabbed eight of her team- and season-high 10 rebounds in the opening half. She added five assists and five steals, both team highs, to her first double double of the season.

Guilford overcame 17 second-half turnovers by making over 56 percent of its field goals and holding the Hornets (10-9, 6-9 ODAC) to 24 percent field-goal shooting. Miller made all four of her second-half shots, including a three-pointer, for nine points. She sank seven of 10 baskets in the game and moved into fifth place on the Quakers' career field goals list (440).

Quakers' freshman guard A.J. Roberston (Eden, NC/Morehead) tossed in 10 points off the bench and made both three-point attempts. Miller added a career-high four steals and six rebounds as Guilford enjoyed a 45-30 rebounding edge in their 21st win over Lynchburg in 22 meetings. The Quakers converted 33 Hornets' turnovers into 24 points and outscored their foes, 19-3, on fast breaks.

Junior forward Beth Carter (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) and freshman guard Whitney Yates (Roanoke, VA/William Byrd) paced Lynchburg with eight points apiece. Junior center Johari Bass (Roseland, VA/Nelson County) scored seven points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Quakers visit Randolph-Macon Woman's College Friday night (2/9) at 7:00 P.M., while the Hornets play at Emory & Henry at 4:00 P.M. this Saturday (2/10).
