HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Guilford College track & field team traveled to High Point University this past Thursday and Friday to compete in the VertKlasse Meeting inside the Vert Stadium. Facing a deep field featuring programs from the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels, the Quakers rose to the challenge, collecting a slew of personal and season bests.
The action began Thursday with
Kayden Gaddist (Summerville, S.C.) recording a throw of 44.88 meters in the men's javelin, while
Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) navigated the men's steeplechase in 11:54.99.
Friday's track sessions saw the Quakers excel in the short sprints. In the men's 100 meters,
Cedric Blowe (Indian Trail, N.C.) and
KJ Allen (Boonsville, N.C.) both clocked season-best times of 11.11 and 11.25 seconds, respectively. They were joined by
Jeremiah Coley (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and
Marcus Tate Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.), who both secured personal bests with times of 12.13 and 12.30.
The 400-meter squad also turned in a productive day.
Jaden Jones (Rocky Mount, N.C.) led the group in 51.03, followed closely by
Tkwon Davis (Warren County, N.C.) at 51.48.
Yassine Aallam (Holly Springs, N.C.) and
Ke'Shaun Alston (Warrenton, N.C.) both set personal records in the event, finishing in 52.77 and 55.38, while
Trenten Torain (Durham, N.C.) crossed the line in an even 53.00.
To close out the sprint events, Jones and Blowe paced the team in the 200 meters with times of 22.22 and 22.34. Davis added another personal record to his weekend with a 23.33-second finish, followed by Aallam in 23.64.
On the women's side,
Bess Parnell (Cairo, Egypt) enjoyed a standout Friday, setting a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 1:08.44 and later clocking a 1:24.29 in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the distance events,
JC Yañez (Thomasville, N.C.) represented Guilford in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:43.58.
The Quakers return to competition on Friday, April 10, for the two-day Southside Power & Fitness Invitational hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C.
