Quakers look to rebound following tough open to season at Gate City Invitational.

NORMAN, Okla. – The opening act for the Quakers did not fall into place as the Guilford College men's golf team enters week two of the fall looking for improvement after their performance at the Gate City Invitational. This was shown in the latest edition of the Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll with the Quakers ranking no. 20, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) recently.

Led by Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) newly-ranked junior Andrew Perry (Fuquay Varina, N.C.), the Quakers were flirting with the top-three of the leaderboard last Monday in the Triad after posting a 144 (E) after 18 holes of play. Although day two had some impactful bounce-back scores for Guilford after Braeden Gillen's (Holly Springs, N.C.) 73 (+1) and Gavin Peach's (Charlotte, N.C.) 75 (+3), the Quakers fell-short of a top-10 finish on the final day at the Gate City Invitational at Forest Oaks Country Club.

The emergence of the best talent in the nation was evident last week at the competition as new and familiar faces made their mark in the newest national poll. The Sewanee Tigers were on top this week after their close victory in Greensboro over No. 2 Carnegie-Mellon University and No. 5 Huntingdon College, as the trio finished in that order with succeeding scores. Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foes Washington & Lee University and the University of Lynchburg each rank ahead of the Quakers at No. 3 and No. 13 accordingly, after week one of the fall-slate. However, Guilford did place ahead of ODAC rivals Hampden-Sydney College and Averett University after the Quakers ranking-out ahead in the final results at the Gate City Invite.

Guilford heads down to the sunshine state to face top contenders again at the DIII Men's Golf NCAA Preview on Sunday, September 21st through Tuesday, September 23rd at the Mission Inn & Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla.
