Golf Rises One Spot to 19th in Latest Bushnell/Golfweek National Poll

Quakers are thriving for more record-breaking success at the national level as they kick off their October tournament slate next week.

NORMAN, Okla. – After having preparation time for their upcoming matches in the peak days of fall, the Guilford College men's golf team enters week three of action seeking their sites on a top-10 rank after breaking individual career bests at the NCAA Preview. This was displayed in the latest edition of the Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll with the Quakers ranking no. 19, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) recently.

Led by Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) ranked sophomore Luke Wise (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), the Quakers were eyeing a top-ten placement against a nationally-stacked field. Wise would go on to break several individual career-bests down in the sunshine-state posting an 18-hole round of 69 (-3) on day three of play, along with his career-leading three-day performance of 213 (-2), placing 15th in the tournament, also a collegiate-best. Gavin Peach (Charlotte, N.C.) would continue Guilford's top-showing with a record-tying round of 71 (-1) on day three of the tournament. Andrew Perry (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) would follow-suit with another collegiate career-low for the Quakers posting a 69 (-3) on day one of the tournament. Guilford would be striving for a top-ten finish in a loaded field, just falling shy of that mark after the final round at the NCAA Preview at the Mission Inn & Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla.

After a full-month of competition, the top-tier teams in the nation would emerge themselves known in the national poll. The Emory Eagles rose to the top this week after their nail-biting victory in the NCAA Preview over No. 2 nationally-ranked Methodist University and No. 3 nationally-ranked Oglethorpe University, as the trio placed in that order with subsequent scores. Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition Washington & Lee University and the University of Lynchburg marked ahead of the Quakers at No. 8 and No. 18 respectively, entering the third week of play. However, Guilford did rank ahead of ODAC adversaries Hampden-Sydney College and Shenandoah University with both schools only receiving votes in this latest national poll.

Guilford travels a good distance from home to the Laurel Highlands Region to take on additional national contenders at the Tartan Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon University on Monday, October 13th through Tuesday October 14th at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pa.
