Golf Wraps Up the NCAA Preview in 15th Place Competing Alongside the Nation’s Best

Wise and Peach surged up the leaderboard with both third-round scores in red figures, driving the Quakers to a top-15 team result.

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Headlined by a top-10 finish by Luke Wise (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), the No. 20 nationally ranked Guilford College men's golf team logged a 15th place finish at the NCAA Preview, hosted by Oglethorpe University on Sunday through Tuesday at Mission Inn & Resort on the Las Colinas and El Campeon courses.

The sunshine state brought mediocre weather for the Quakers with humidity rising all three days as they took on the top-ranked teams in the nation for NCAA DIII Men's Golf. Guilford kicked off with three-straight 18-hole rounds, bright and early at the host course for the upcoming national tournament site. No. 3 nationally ranked Emory University would capture the crown, firing an 862 (+2) after 54 holes of play, narrowly escaping no. 7 nationally ranked Methodist University who recorded an 863 (+3) as a squad. Oglethorpe University's Jackson Hiller, would dominate the stacked field, posting a 202 (-13), claiming his individual title at the conclusion of 54 holes. The Quakers would finish second-best to fellow ODAC rivals with no. 3 nationally ranked Washington & Lee University leading the charge scoring an 874 (+14) after three days. Guilford narrowly escaped no. 13 nationally ranked University of Lynchburg after they tallied up an 890 (+30) at the conclusion of Tuesday's round.

Wise slowly rose up into the top-10 at the conclusion of round three for the Quakers. Sunday's round started off rocky with a double-bogey on the par 5 13th, but finished off strong with a birdie on each nine to fire a 72 (+1) on day one on the Las Colinas course. Wise was smooth-sailing in round two with a birdie and bogey on each side of the El Campeon course, recording a round of 72 (E). Wise would dominate from the first teeshot to the final putt six birdies and three bogeys, rounding out to a career-low of 69 (-3) on the El Campeon course in round three. Wise would conclude Tuesday after scoring a career-low three round score of 213 (-2).

Gavin Peach (Charlotte, N.C.) started off strong in round one on the Las Colinas course scoring three bridies, but doubled that number in bogeys to log a 74 (+3) on Sunday. Things would get shaky in round two with a triple bogey start on the par 5 tenth and a double-bogey on the par 5 first, but a streak of pars would keep him from scoring over par by double digits, recording an 81 (+9) on day two. Peach would have a significant impact on day three for the Quakers, with four birdies and three bogeys, tying a career-low 18-hole round of 71 (-1), and placing 67th after scoring a 226 (+11) overall.

Andrew Perry (Fuquay Varina, N.C.) showed strong consistency in all three rounds, kicking off Sunday's morning showing with ups-and-downs in his opening 74 (+3). Perry would rock-and-roll on day two, logging a career-low 18-hole round of 69 (-3), off the back of his four birdies on the day. Perry would have a mediocre finish after a roaring start with an eagle on the par 5 14th, flatlining on the back-nine to fire a 77 (+5) Tuesday). Perry would rank out 35th individually, tallying a 220 (+5) after three days.

Braeden Gillen (Holly Springs, N.C.) would have an impact in the first two days for Guilford. Round one was off to a strong start for Gillen with only a few strokes over par and a solo birdie, posting a 76 (+5). Similarities would go about on day two, as Gillen would score two birdies and log a 77 (+5) the El Campeon course. Tuesday on the El Campeon course wouldn't wrap up strong for Gillen as triple-bogies on the par 3 second and the par 4 fifth would lead to his non-counting score of 79 (+7) on Tuesday, ranking 101st with a 232 (+17) in total.

Larsen Gallimore (Walnut Cove, N.C.) would only count his score one-time for the Quakes. After starting off-rocky with his round one 79 (+8) on the Las Colinas 18, and falling on the leaderboard on the El Campeon 18 with an 84 (+12) on Monday. Gallimore finished strongly with a soaring 76 (+4), placing 113th with a 239 (+24).

The Quakers will next compete at the Tertan Invitational hosted by Carnegie-Mellon University being played Monday, October 13th, through Tuesday, October 14th at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pa.
