GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College men's golf team was ranked No. 15 in the National Collegiate Golf national rankings released by Scoreboard on Wednesday.
From the last update, the Quakers did get bumped down two spots but are fresh off their best showing of the spring at the Camp Lejune Intercollegiate, hosted by Oglethorpe, over the weekend. GC took third in that competition against a lighter-than-usual field of teams. They do stand-pat among Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) programs, sitting third behind top-ranked Washington & Lee University and the University of Lynchburg, who sits at No. 10. Hampden-Sydney College and Averett University also represent the league in the top-25 at No. 18 and No. 23 respectively. Regionally, the Quakers remain at No. 8 among the loaded Region IV that is well-represented as always with 11 teams in the top-25.
On his own,
Evan Mendyk (Summerfield, N.C.) dropped to No. 24 nationally despite his strong showing at GC's last competition, having fallen from No. 11 at his peak on March 19
th. He is No. 15 in Region IV and fourth in the ODAC based on the rankings.
James Alden (East Northport, N.Y.) has not experienced the same spring surge that he enjoyed last year and sits at No. 55 after a tumultuous performance last weekend dropped him a dozen spots.
Andrew Perry (Fuquay Varina, N.C.) is back on the rise, moving to No. 178, compared to No. 196 two weeks ago but the team's most rapid ascent comes from
Luke Wise (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.). Starting the spring unranked, the freshman broke into the rankings at No. 406 on March 12
th but in less than a month he has shaved 119 spots off that, rocketing to No. 287.
Parker Cumbea (Fuquay Varina, N.C.) rounds out GC contributors at No. 303.
Guilford will compete in the ODAC Championship next from Monday, April 28
th through Wednesday, April 30
th.
