EMORY, Va. – The Guilford College women's rugby team (2-3-1) traveled to Emory & Henry University for a day of 10s competition, playing three exciting matches that highlighted growth, resilience, and balanced play across the roster ending in a 1-1-1 result.
Guilford College- 17, Emory & Henry University- 12
Guilford opened the day strong with a 17–12 win over Emory & Henry. Tries came from
Ashlynn Beharry,
Hannah Hatfield (Penhook, Va.), and
Zoe Tate (Laytonsville, Md), with
Jasmine Cartwright (Kalispell, Mont.) adding a conversion. The Quakers were able to identify space, and with quick support play, they set the tone for the day.
Emory & Henry University- 28, Guilford College- 10
Emory & Henry responded in the second match, earning a 28–10 victory. Cartwright provided all 10 points for Guilford with two determined tries, showcasing her ability to create opportunities in open space.

Guilford College- 24, Emory & Henry University- 24
The final matchup ended in a thrilling 24–24 draw, as both teams traded tries in a fast-paced finish. Guilford's scorers included Hatfield, Beharry, and Cartwright with conversions from Cartwright and
Caitlyn Reese (Noblesville, Ind.).
Across all three matches, Guilford demonstrated improvement in defensive organization and attacking creativity, finishing the day with a combined 51-62, 11-point deficit.
Coach Newcomb praised the team's performance, noting, "The players showed adaptability and grit throughout the day. Our consensus in the last ten minutes was to end on our terms. I think that's exactly what we did, coming back from a 12-point deficit to end in a draw."
The Quakers return to training this week with their next match at Queens University on October 18th in Charlotte, NC.
