Guilford Men's Lacrosse Moves to 4-1 With Road Win at Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Bryce Craig and Brennan Sweeney scored four goals apiece in Guilford College's 17-10 lacrosse victory at Methodist University Tuesday.

Craig tallied three times in the first half, which helped the visiting Quakers (4-1) erase an early 4-3 deficit. His second goal of the day broke the game's final tie and gave Guilford a 5-4 lead. He tallied 25 seconds later to send the guests into halftime with a 6-4 advantage.

The teams traded goals through the third quarter before Guilford's Derek Zacatenco and Connor Sweeney closed out the period's scoring for a 12-8 Quakers' lead. Brennan Sweeney tallied three times in the final five minutes of regulation to provide the game's final margin.

Guilford peppered Monarchs' goalie Clay Stevenson with 65 shots and Stevenson responded with a school-record 27 saves and kept the home team within reach for most of the game.

The Quakers' Jax Atkins won 18-of-26 face-offs to help Guilford control possession and keep the pressure on at the offensive end. Brennan Sweeney finished with seven points and Connor Sweeney added six. Guilford's Nick Honkomp and Dimaggio Wilson both contributed two goals and an assist. Jack Rogers had six saves in 55 minutes in goal before yielding to freshman Marley Tolton, who had two stops in the final five minutes.

Connor Glenn and Jesse Layble's both scored a team-high three goals for Methodist. Glenn had an assist for a team-best four points.

Coach Mark Crisco's Quakers are back in action March 4 versus William Peace University in Guilford's home opener at 4:00 p.m.
