SALEM, Va. – Concluding the 2026 season, the Guilford College men's lacrosse team (2-12, 1-9 ODAC) ventured to Kerr Stadium, suffering a defeat to (RV) Roanoke College, 27-2 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Wednesday evening.
The story of the season, the Quakers were thoroughly outdone across the board, getting outshot 61-11, including 47-5 in the first half and 45-4 in shots on goal. GC committed more turnovers, 17-8, had fewer groundballs, 51-13, and fell on 28 of the 33 faceoffs.
Darius Safavi-Abbassi (Culver City, Calif.) wrapped up his widely respected Guilford career making 18 saves over nearly 58 minutes while allowing 27 goals before exiting with rousing approval from his teammates despite the losing decision, falling to 2-12. Alex Feuer got the win for the Maroons as the first of five goalies utilized despite allowing a goal on the lone shot he faced, nonetheless improving to 4-0.
Jason Campbell (Fairfax, Va.) and
Nick Ianonne (Wellington, Fla.) scored the two Guilford goals in this one. Safavi-Abbassi led the team with three groundballs, followed by two each by
Hudson Bosland (Otisville, N.Y.) and
Camo Campbell (Flowery Branch, Ga.). Iannone led the team in the circle with three wins in nine tries.
Roanoke saw 18 different men score at least once, led by Patrick Cullen's hat trick. They also had 12 players distribute an assist, highlighted by a quartet for Julian Kammerman, who finished with a game-high five points. Tyler Schmelzer and Ben Vetti each contributed two goals and assisted on two others. Justin Marengo won 16-of-18 faceoffs followed by a 12-for-15 showing by TJ Harris. Grayson Kirby forced three turnovers and Karson Keating, in addition to Harris, led all players in GBs with seven.
Despite where the score finished, Guilford actually had a lead. Winning the opening faceoff but swiftly turning the ball over, GC survived a trio of RC shots, including two saved by Safavi-Abbassi before clearing and scoring with a tally for
Jason Campbell. Unfortunately, it was a Maroon landslide from there, winning the faceoff and scoring, then scoring on their second attack after that and finally another faceoff victory to score with what ended up as the game-winner by Colin Lasch. Another 11 RC tallies closed the opening half in a 14-1 score.
The hosts extended it to 18-unanswered before Iannone found the net, but another four Maroon goals made it 22-2 at the half. They called off the dogs in the second half, scoring three in the third and finally two in the fourth in a 27-2 final.
This concludes the 2026 season for the Guilford College men's lacrosse team.
