GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College men's lacrosse team (2-10, 1-7 ODAC) fell in their 2026 finale at Appenzeller Field in the Armfield Athletic Center, 11-4 to Averett University (1-13, 1-7 ODAC) on Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
The Quakers struggled controlling the ball, for their biggest detriment in this one, completing just 20 of their 30 clearance attempts and while AU actually had more turnovers, 28-21, they took advantage of the GC miscues more-frequently. The shot tallies were close, at 43-41, with the guests taking more, but they were also more accurate with 25 on target against Guilford's 18.
Darius Safavi-Abbassi (Culver City, Calif.) was good but not great, making 14 saves against 11 goals allowed in the loss to fall to 2-10. Robbie Isenhour got his first win of the season, improving to 1-13 by making 14 saves against four goals permitted.
Camo Campbell (Flower Branch, Ga.),
Jason Campbell (Fairfax, Va.),
Kenneth Crowley (Charlotte, N.C.), and
Adrian Moorman (Ottawa, Canada) all scored for the Quakers.
Nick Ianonne (Wellington, Fla.) had an assist as did
Jason Campbell.
Dom Bialer (West End, N.C.) caused a couple turnovers while Iannone went 5-of-11 in the circle, scooping a team-high five groundballs.
Emmett Wood scored a quartet of goals to lead AU while Connor Boyd and Luis Martinez scored two-each. Zac Coleman had a trio of assists. Giovanni D'Amico forced five turnovers and had eight groundballs while Tyler Greene finished winning 8-of-11 faceoffs.
The Quakers were a little loose in the early going of this one. The score opened due to a turnover on a clear attempt that Cory Habick picked off with a clear lane to the net for the night's initial goal. Then on the ensuing faceoff, the ball popped way out, and into the waiting net of Wood, who more-or-less turned and fired for a tally. Guilford got on the board after that with Iannone tossing a quick give to Moorman in the heart of the defense, with the junior going bottom-left for the goal. AU took advantage with three more goals, including two transition goals but the Quakers got momentum into the final frame. Getting on the man-advantage, Crowley was able to spin off his defender then tuck it in the high-left side, narrowing the tallies to 5-2.
Jason Campbell rode the wave, driving to his right then tucking it into the strongside, but that is all GC got in the quarter, with the Cougars generating more distance with a trio of tallies, making the score 8-3 at the half.
Into the second half, it proved that it was just not the Quakers' night as after nearly six minutes of scoreless lacrosse, Luis Martinez scored a third-chance goal as the only scoring in the third. In the fourth, AU got a goal before
Camo Campbell finally broke the draught with hit eighth of the season. One final Cougar tally brought the final score to 11-4.
Guilford is on the road the rest of the way, heading up to Bridgewater College next on Saturday, April 18
th for a 3:00 PM matchup.
