Washington and Lee Races Past Guilford in ODAC Men's Lacrosse

LEXINGTON, Va. - A.J. Witherell notched four goals and an assist in Washington and Lee University's 20-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse victory over visiting Guilford College Saturday. Teammate Sam Dardani added three goals and three assists as the Generals stayed perfect in the ODAC (4-0) and improved to 6-4 overall with their fourth straight win.

Dardani scored all of his goals in a 5-1 Washington and Lee run to open the game. The Generals scored three times within a 30-second span to cap the run. Guilford's Aswan Bland scored as the first quarter ended to get the Quakers (4-6, 0-4 ODAC) to within 5-2.

Washington and Lee's J.P. Henry tallied the first of the Generals' four man-up goals in the middle of a 3-0 Generals' run in the second quarter. The Quakers' Nick Damiano scored the first of his team-best three goals to close the first-half scoring and make it an 8-3 game.

The Generals pulled away in the third quarter with six unanswered scores. Witherell tallied three times and Whit Griffin added two during an 8-0 spurt that extended into the final quarter. Robert Cooleen netted three fourth-quarter scores, two in the final 5:19 when Washington and Lee outscored the Quakers, 4-1.

Twelve different Generals had goals, including Griffin, who finished with two goals and two assists. Jack Hodgson and Jed Londrey combined to win 19-of-23 draws and pick up 15 ground balls. Phillip Rech, the first of three Washington and Lee goalies, made 10 saves in just over two quarters of work. Washington and Lee won 20-of-26 face-offs and outshot the Quakers, 64-23.

Damiano's three goals led Guilford's offense. Bland and Joe Eggleston had the other Quakers' scores. Guilford's Will Forrestal picked up a team-high five ground balls and teammate Parker Styles made 24 saves in goal.

Coach Tom Carmean's Quakers visit Ferrum College Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in a nonleague game.
