Guilford Rally Falls Short in Men's Lacrosse Loss at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – Kyle Keepers scored two goals and an assist to help Randolph-Macon College to a 6-4 lacrosse win over visiting Guilford College Saturday. The Yellow Jackets (4-3, 1-0 ODAC) held off a Quakers' (3-3, 0-1 ODAC) comeback to win both teams' Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener.

After Guilford's Charlie Kiley netted the opening goal 11 minutes into the game, Randolph-Macon scored the next six scores. Keepers set up David Cryster for the Yellow Jackets' first tally, just 24 seconds after Kiley's goal. Mitch Behl added a man-up score before the end of the quarter and Keepers connected with an unassisted goal 4:31 before halftime, which gave the hosts a 3-1 edge after two quarters.

Keepers scored his second goal in the midst of a 3-0 Randolph-Macon run to start the third quarter before Aswan Bland connected for Guilford with 21 seconds left in the frame. The Quakers' Connor Sweeney made it a 6-3 game with his goal in the fourth quarter's opening minute off a Kiley assist. Zach Berkowitz's score trimmed the deficit to two with 6:29 left.  Guilford had a few more shots in the game's final minutes, but Yellow Jackets' goalie Brian Davies stopped the lone shot on goal.

Randolph-Macon held a 36-18 edge in shots and won nine-of-14 face-offs. Keepers' three points paced the offense. Miles Muncie added a goal, one assist and a team-high four ground balls. Joe Maranto also picked up four ground balls. Davies stopped eight of the 12 shots he faced in goal.

Kiley led Guilford's offense with his two points. Berkowitz and Bland both scored their team-leading 11th goals of the season. Guilford's David Felipe picked up a game-high five ground balls and Quakers' goalie Parker Styles made 14 saves.

Coach Tom Carmean's Quakers host Methodist University Wednesday (3/15) at 7:00 p.m. in a nonconference game.
