Berkowitz, Fiore Shine in Men's Lacrosse Win Over Ferrum

Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Rookie Zachary Berkowitz scored a career-high four goals and an assist in Guilford College's 18-10 lacrosse win over visiting Ferrum College Wednesday. Guilford senior Adam Fiore added a season-best eight points on three goals and five assists in the Quakers' highest scoring output of the season.

The Quakers (5-6) netted the game's first four goals and never looked back. Daniel Haupt notched two of his three scores in the first quarter, which staked the hosts to a 6-1 lead after 15 minutes. Berkowitz connected for three second-quarter scores, which put Guilford well in control with a 12-3 advantage.

Ferrum's Ryan Tesler tallied from Chase Tellon to start the second-half scoring, but the Quakers answered with three scores in an 80-second span, including two of Daniel Hughey's three goals. Fiore capped the run by converting a Berkowitz feed with a man advantage, which opened a 15-4 Guilford margin.

The Panthers (6-9) outscored Guilford, 5-2, in the final quarter as both teams substituted liberally.

Ian Wiesenberg (2 goals, 1 assist) and Alex Brownlee (2 goals) joined the Quakers' multiple-goal scorers. Guilford owned a 53-26 edge in shots, won 19 of the game's 32 face-offs, and had 38 ground balls to the Panthers' 18. Connor Manning won 10-of-18 draws and Aaron Parrish won nine-of-14 face-offs. The Quakers' David Felipe picked up a game-high five ground balls and caused two turnovers. Guilford goalie Parker Styles made four of Guilford's seven saves in the first three quarters.

Tesler scored four goals and an assist to pace Ferrum's offense. Tyler Fullem and Frank Boxley both tallied twice. Koby McMahon, the first of four Ferrum goalies, made six stops in the first half. Henry Carkhuff stopped seven shots in the 24 second-half minutes between the pipes.

Coach Tom Carmean's Quakers visit Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Bridgewater College Saturday (4/9) at 1:00 p.m.
