Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Aaron Murphy totaled nine points with seven goals and two assists in Lynchburg College's 22-11 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse victory over visiting Guilford College Saturday night.
Murphy scored three times in a decisive second quarter in which the Hornets (8-7, 5-2 ODAC) outscored the Quakers (7-8, 3-5 ODAC), 9-0. Guilford trailed, 3-2, late in the first quarter after an Andrew McDonagh score, but Lynchburg ripped off the next 12 goals to open a 15-2 margin early in the third period. Murphy scored four times and Austin Stewart tallied three of his five goals in the run. The second quarter proved the difference as Guilford played the Hornets to a 10-9 game in the final two stanzas.
Lynchburg's Chris Cornelius tallied twice and had three assists to join Murphy and Stewart as the Hornets' multiple-goal scorers. He was one of 10 Lynchburg goal-scorers on the night. Danny Czerkawski scored once, won nine-of-13 face-offs and collected a game-high seven ground balls. Bobby Distler won eight-of-13 draws and had six ground balls. Chris Hawley played three quarters in goal, allowed six scores and made eight saves. Lynchburg outshot Guilford, 51-34, and scored on six-of-seven man-up opportunities.
Guilford's Adam Fiore paced the Quakers with six points on three goals and a game-high three assists. Zach Berkowitz and Joe Eggleston both tallied twice. Dylan Haupt added three assists. Cam Davis and Connor Manning both collected a club-high four ground balls. Sophomore goalie Parker Styles made 14 saves in nearly 53 minutes between the pipes. The Quakers converted on a season-best five extra-man chances, two by Fiore.
Coach Tom Carmean's Quakers close the regular season next Saturday (4/30) with an ODAC game versus visiting Randolph College at 1:00 p.m.
