Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - Aaron Murphy scored five goals in Lynchburg College's 15-7 lacrosse win over visiting Guilford College in both teams' Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener Saturday.
The Hornets (3-2, 1-0 ODAC), ranked 12th in this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association NCAA Division III Coaches' Poll, ended the Quakers' five-game winning streak.
Murphy scored the game's first three goals before Guilford's Dylan Haupt got the Quakers on the board late in the first quarter. Lynchburg outscored Guilford, 4-2, in the second quarter and took a 7-3 halftime lead.
Murphy's fourth goal capped a 4-0 Lynchburg run to start the third quarter. He scored later in the period, which opened a 12-5 edge.
Nine different Hornets scored, including Campbell Armstrong and David Alyanakian, who both had two scores. Lynchburg's Bobby Distler won 12-of-18 face-offs and picked up a team-high six ground balls. Andrew Fawkes played the first three quarters in goal and made three saves before giving way to James Cook and Chris Hawley for the final quarter.
Duncan Fitzgerald scored a club-high three goals for Guilford, which played without leading face-off man Connor Manning. Adam Fiore added two assists. Thomas Deane recorded 10 saves and three ground balls in goal.
The Quakers host league-rival Washington and Lee University Saturday (3/22) at 1:00 p.m.
