Brown's Career Game Helps Guilford Past William Peace

Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Jordyn Brown scored a career-high 13 points off the bench in Guilford College's 78-47 women's basketball win over visiting William Peace University Saturday. The Quakers' seventh win in eight games moved their record to 7-2 and dropped the Pacers to 2-4.

Despite missing senior captain Brittany Drew with an injury, the Quakers cruised to their second-largest triumph of the season. A strong defensive effort helped Guilford race to a 33-6 lead midway through the first half and the Quakers never looked back.

Coach Stephanie Flamini played her starters for eight minutes at the start of both halves, during which time rookie Lauren Ramsey collected 10 points and seven rebounds, both career highs. Guilford's leading scorer to date, sophomore Anais Weatherly, scored just seven points (10 below her season average), but corralled a game-high 13 rebounds.

Brown paced the efforts of Guilford's reserves, who outscored their William Peace counterparts, 44-6.  Miranda Martin nearly nabbed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Jamie Ellis finished with a personal-best eight points and sophomore Katelyn Clark chipped in three points and a game-best four assists.

Brittany Boykin's game-high 15 points led William Peace, which managed 25.4 percent shooting from the floor. Derrica Jones added 13 points and 10 boards for the Pacers. Ka'la Jordan, one of NCAA Division III's leaders in steals, had a game-nest six thefts, along with nine points.

Guilford returns to action Jan. 2 against visiting Emory University at 2:00 p.m. in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
