FOREST, Va. - Entering a new season with a blend of returning experience and incoming talent under Head Coach
Sarah Mathews, the Guilford College women's basketball team was selected to finish seventh in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll heading into the 2026-27 season, as announced by the conference offices on Tuesday.
"With over 70% of our team new this year, we have been spending the pre-season teaching and breaking down our offense and presses," said Mathews. "However, I am impressed with how quickly newcomers are grasping our concepts and how coachable they have been. We are both bigger and more athletic than in recent years."
Having just five returners from last years' squad, the Quakers will feature a significantly different look this winter, welcoming 10 incoming freshmen and three transfers to the program. The new freshman class and three transfers will look to complement the returning core as Guilford works to fill gaps and develop chemistry ahead of the start of conference play.
Leading the returning group is senior guard
Briahna Scott (Burlington, N.C.), the lone senior on this year's roster, and the team's top returning scorer. Scott totaled 346 points last season, averaging 14.0 points per game, while providing an impact across the stat sheet. She paced the Quakers with 70 steals and added 22 blocks, while collecting 106 rebounds, the third-highest total on the team. She also contributed 2.5 assists per game, giving Guilford a versatile offensive presence and an experienced leader to build around.
Joining Scott in the returning core is junior
Hannah Ajayi (Chapel Hill, N.C.), and sophomores
Carmyn Claxton (Greenville, S.C.),
Evelyn George (Hillsborough, N.C.), and
Karly Glahn (Charlotte, N.C.). Ajayi looks to carry the momentum of a strong finish to last season into the new campaign. Glahn brings a defensive presence, having totaled 28 steals and 8 blocks to go along with 120 points. George established herself as a consistent contributor and shooting threat, tallying 137 points and 91 rebounds, while Claxton looks to build on her potential after an injury limited her availability for much of her freshman campaign.
Among transfers is
Kendyll Moore (Mooresville, N.C.), a junior out of USA-South foe Pfeiffer University. Alongside her is
Mya Mewborne (Virginia Beach, Va.), who spent two seasons in the JuCo system, splitting time at Richard Bland College and Patrick & Henry Community College. Improving statistically from 3.4 points per game to 7.6 in switching schools, Mewborne will look to continue her upward trajectory with the Quakers. Rounding out the transfer class is
Audrey Gorman (Davidson, N.C.), who joins Guilford from Newberry College after previously attending the institution without competing on its women's basketball team. Together, the incoming transfers and fresh faces of freshman add depth and new perspectives to a retooled roster as the Quakers turn their attention toward the start of the 2026-27 season.
The Quakers will open the new season at William Peace University on November 14 before tipping off against cross-town rival Greensboro College at the First Horizon Coliseum on November 18. GC is then set to host Regent University just before Thanksgiving, on November 24, before opening ODAC play at home on December 2 against Roanoke College, with a 5:00 PM tipoff.
