Box Score

RALEIGH – Guilford College's women's basketball team shot a season-high 52.5 percent from the floor and forced 23 turnovers in a convincing 78-36 win at William Peace University Sunday.

The Quakers' fifth straight triumph improved their record to 8-1, the program's best start since 2007.

Guilford held the Pacers (0-6) to just four field goals in the opening period to take a 34-11 halftime lead. The Quakers held a 10-7 lead 11 minutes before intermission before ending the half on a 24-4 run. Seven different Guilford students scored during the spurt, including senior Morgan King, who tallied four of her game-high 15 points. William Peace shot just four-of-19 from the floor in the first half.

The Quakers widened their lead in the second half, thanks in part to a 25-10 outburst to start the period. King scored nine second-half points.

Sarah Burnick added 10 points off the bench for Guilford, which had 13 different students score. King and Miranda Martin led the Quakers with six rebounds apiece.

Derrica Jones' 10 points and six rebounds led William Peace.

Guilford returns to action Friday (12/20) in the first of two games in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Quakers play the University of Scranton at noon. On Saturday, Guilford plays Benedictine (Ill.) University at 10:00 a.m.
