Guilford Tops Peace For First Win of 2011

Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. - Guilford College downed Peace College, 66-41, Saturday in the consolation game of Peace's Jackie Ammons Tournament.

The Quakers (1-2) bounced back from a loss less than 24 hours earlier to a strong Concordia (Moorhead) College team and overcame a sluggish start to grab a 30-21 halftime lead.

Guilford opened the second half on a 12-0 run, with Morgan King, Gabby Oglesby and Jaclyn Nucci each scoring four points apiece to build a 20-point Quakers' lead.

King led the Quakers with her first double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds and a team-high five assists. She represented the Quakers on the all-tournament team. Oglesby added 14 points and six rebounds.  Guilford used its height to its advantage as freshman posts Amber Weaver (10 points, 6 rebounds) and Brittany Connor (6 points, 9 rebounds) both enjoyed career games.

The Pacers (0-3) were led by Derrica Jones' team-high eight points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Callie Yohn ripped down six rebounds and chipped in seven points.  Crystal Alston added eight points, including the team's only two three-pointers of the contest.

The Quakers are back in action Tuesday night (11/22) as they travel to Washington and Lee University for the first Old Dominion Athletic Conference match-up of the season.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
