Box Score ASHLAND, Va. (4/15/09) - Rich Wilkens registered a hat trick in Randolph-Macon College's 9-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse victory over Guilford College Wednesday afternoon.
Wilkens scored the game's first two goals, both unassisted, to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead with 4:36 remaining in the first quarter. Brian Rowe netted a goal 50 seconds later, depositing a pass from Chris Lamb in transition. Guilford's Daniel Dowd put the Quakers on the board before the quarter's end, but Kevin Patton responded with a goal of his own to regain the three-goal Yellow Jackets' advantage. Guilford's (3-9, 1-4 ODAC) Greg Nash tallied a man-up goal with 4:38 remaining in the half to make the score 4-2 at halftime.
Both teams exchanged man-up goals in the first six minutes of the second half before Randolph-Macon's Patrick Egan netted an unassisted goal with 3:25 remaining in the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets carried that momentum into the final stanza as Egan, Wilkens, and Tyler Midwinter scored and widened the hosts lead to 9-3. Nash scored his second goal of the game with 4:56 remaining in regulation and earned a man-up opportunity 11 seconds later, but the Yellow Jackets' defense held the Quakers scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Randolph-Macon (6-6, 1-4 ODAC) faces Virginia Wesleyan College next Wednesday (4/22) in both teams' regular-season finale. The Quakers host nationally ranked Lynchburg College Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. ODAC match.
