Lynchburg Scores Narrow Win Over Guilford

LYNCHBURG, Va. (12-6-08) – Kylie Lucas scored six of her 12 points in the final 2:43 to lead Lynchburg College past visiting Guilford College, 68-62, Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball action.

Lucas's layup with 2:43 remaining tied the see-saw contest for the 13th and final time at 60-60. The teams traded scoreless possessions before Lucas scored the go-ahead points on two free throws with 1:48 left in regulation.  The Hornets (3-4, 2-2 ODAC) outscored Guilford, 10-2, in the final 2:43 to pull out the victory in a game that featured 13 lead changes.

Dana Esposito scored 14 of her game-high 17 points and Lucas added 11 points in the second half for Lynchburg. The Hornets limited the Quakers to just under 27 percent field-goal shooting in the second half and erased a 37-36 halftime deficit.

Guilford's Tracey Croner totaled 17 points and nine rebounds, both team highs.  She scored seven points and had eight caroms in the second half. Jasmine Wood added 11 points and five boards for the Quakers.

After a break for exams, Guilford (3-4, 2-2 ODAC) returns to action Dec. 16 at Warner College in Florida.
