Box Score Greensboro, N.C. (4/7/07) -- Junior Brett Morris scored four goals and classmate Jordan Kenney added three goals and two assists in visiting Virginia Wesleyan College's 14-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse win at Guilford College Saturday afternoon.
The Marlins (7-4, 2-3 ODAC) broke open a 6-3 game with a dominant third period in which they outshot Guilford, 23-2. Morris and Kenney both scored extra-man goals in a 61-second span early in the period to open a 9-3 lead. Ten seconds after Kenney's goal, junior Maicin Dunk took advantage of a Guilford (2-7, 0-4 ODAC) misplay and netted the first of his two third-quarter goals. Morris followed with his fourth and final tally 57 seconds later and the Quakers never recovered.
After the Quakers' Tyler Zivic opened the scoring 5:09 into the game, Virginia Wesleyan reeled off the next four goals and led 4-1 early in the second period. The teams traded goals for the rest of the half. Marlins' defenseman Mike Canino scored a rare man-down goal off one of Dunk's three assists with 5:58 left in the half.
Eight different Virginia Wesleyan students scored in the Marlins' second ODAC win in four days. Canino, who also added an assist, picked up five ground balls, as did senior teammate Scott Gauthier. Junior goalie Tom Skartsiaris made four saves in just under 46 minutes between the pipes. Freshman teammate John-Paul Novak recorded three fourth-quarter saves.
Junior attackman Todd Bochenek's two points (1 goal, 1 assist) paced the Quakers' offense. Junior starter Andrew Vigne, one of three Guilford goalies, made 11 of Guilford's 18 saves. Sophomore Kyle Boylan led the Quakers with five ground balls.
Guilford hosts Roanoke next Saturday (4/14) in an ODAC game. Virginia Wesleyan visits Goucher Saturday (4/14) in a nonleague game.
