Box Score Greensboro, N.C. (4/14/07) -- Senior attackman Jon Mason scored six goals and an assist in 15th-ranked Roanoke College's 20-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse victory at Guilford Saturday. The Maroons (10-4, 3-1 ODAC) recorded their first shutout since 1984.
Mason had three goals and an assist in the first quarter and tallied his fourth goal in the second period. He raised his team-leading goals total to 54. Seven different Maroons scored in the opening half to help Roanoke build a 10-0 advantage. By the end of the game, 11 Roanoke students found the back of the net. Rookie midfielder Steve Furdock scored three times. Junior attackman Zach Thomas and junior midfielder Billy Cameron added two goals apiece. Freshman Jake Dorsey played the first three quarters in goal and made four of Roanoke's five saves. Sophomore defenseman Sam Love contributed to the strong defensive showing with a game-high seven ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Quakers (2-8, 0-5 ODAC) managed just 10 shots in their fourth straight loss. Junior Andrew Vigne, one of four Guilford goalies on the day, made 11 of the team's 19 saves in a little over two quarters of work. Defensive midfielder Alex Penny, one of four Guilford seniors playing their final home game, led the Quakers with a career-high five ground balls.
Guilford concludes its ODAC schedule Wednesday (4/18) at nationally ranked Washington and Lee at 3:30 p.m. Roanoke visits Randolph-Macon Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
