Box Score ASHLAND, VA (3/24/07) -- The Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team opened up its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) slate of games by topping Guilford College 14-4 at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets have now won five in a row and stand at 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the league. Guilford drops to 1-4 and 0-1 in the ODAC.
R-MC was led by Peter LaPaglia who tallied a game-high five goals on the day. LaPaglia also got support from Billy Rowe who added four goals in the victory while Tyler Watkins posted a pair of goals and three assists in the win. Brian Vierheller made 13 saves in net while Derek Murray grabbed six ground balls and won 11 face offs on the day.
Guilford got two goals from Brock Florence in a losing effort. Andrew Vigne played just over 48 minutes in net for GC, making eight saves. Kyle Boylan collected six ground balls on the day for the Quakers.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 5-0 lead after LaPaglia connected with Watkins for a goal with 8:16 left in the second quarter.
After Florence got GC on the board with a strike with 4:12 left in the first-half, Rowe closed out the quarter with a goal at the 2:22 mark to put the Jackets up 6-1 at the intermission.
R-MC extended its lead to 8-1 on goals by Keith Baker and LaPaglia to open up the third quarter. After Florence cut the Quakers' deficit to 8-2, R-MC scored thee of the next four goals in the period, including a tally by LaPaglia with 18 ticks left on the clock to go up 11-3 after three quarters.
R-MC out shot GC 34-24 and won the ground ball battle 39-34 while each team went 11-of-22 on face-offs.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on April 4th when it heads to Virginia Wesleyan for an ODAC game at 7:00 p.m. Guilford will take on Oberlin on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
