Box Score Greensboro, NC (12/6/05) -- Senior guard Jennifer King led five Guilford student-athletes in double-figure scoring with 25 points in the Quakers' 84-40 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Hollins Tuesday. Guilford matched its school record with 27 steals in winning its home and ODAC opener.
King, who made 11 of 18 shots from the floor, had 18 points by halftime, which helped the hosts to a 33-20 advantage. LeighAnn Woodley's three-pointer at the start of the second half pulled Hollins to within 10 points, but the club drew no closer.
King notched her fourth straight game of at least 22 points and added six rebounds, five assists and seven steals, the fourth-highest total in school history. She passed Bari Nixon '98 for eighth place on Guilford's career scoring list with 1,140 points and moved into sixth place on the school's all-time steals chart (157). Freshman forward Kristine Ellis produced her second double-double in as many games with 16 points and a game-high 10 boards. Rookie forward Heather Koehler added a career-best 13 points and seven rebounds. Classmate Brittany Bumgarner chipped in 11 points and six steals, both personal bests.
Senior Coby Wilmer led Hollins with 19 points and nine rebounds in 40 minutes. Junior Ashley Lewis added 11 points and nine boards.
The Quakers visit Washington and Lee Thursday (12/8) in a 7:00 p.m. game. Hollins hosts Emory & Henry Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
