Dove Scores 19 as Virginia Wesleyan Tops Guilford in Women's Hoops

Greensboro, NC  -- Sophomore Michelle Dove scored a game high 19 points in 33 minutes of play to lead Virginia Wesleyan to an 84-73 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Guilford. The Marlins' victory is their first over the Quakers since 1999-2000 and marks Guilford's eighth straight loss of the season.

 

Virginia Wesleyan (5-7, 4-4 ODAC) held Guilford (2-8, 0-5 ODAC) to 31.3 percent field-goal shooting and forced 22 turnovers, while shooting a blistering 51.8 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from 3-point range. The Marlins blew open a 39-32 halftime advantage to lead by 21 points with 14:30 left in the second half. Five different Marlins scored in double figures.

 

Jennifer King led Guilford with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists. The Quakers out rebounded the Marlins 45-37 and forced 23 turnovers as they closed the gap in the second half to eight points, but it wasn't enough as the Marlins secured the win. Guilford's Courtney Hill and Brittiany Green had big games scoring 16 and 17 points, respectively. Hill also had a game-high 12 rebounds.

 

      The Marlins return home for their next game against league rival Bridgewater January 13 at 7:00 p.m. Guilford also resumes ODAC play at home Thursday (01/13) against Roanoke at 7:00 p.m.
