KEICHLINE LIFTS GUILFORD WOMEN OVER VIRGINIA WESLEYAN, 64-56

Greensboro, NC (02/04/04) - Senior forward Jennie Keichline (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) scored a game- and season-high 20 points and added 11 rebounds to lead Guilford to a 64-56 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win over Virginia Wesleyan Sunday afternoon. The Quakers' (11-7, 9-5 ODAC) 10th straight win over Virginia Wesleyan (4-13, 3-10 ODAC) marked the Marlins' sixth straight setback this season.

While Virginia Wesleyan never led in the second half, the Marlins never let Guilford get comfortable in the second half. Jackie Hardenbergh's (Oak Hill, VA/Paul VI) three-pointer at 16:13 of the second half gave the hosts as 10-point lead, but the Marlins rallied to within 51-49 on a Nicole Thurston (Ramstein, Germany/American) basket with 12:38 remaining. Keichline scored six points during the subsequent 12-6 Guilford spurt, but the Marlins made it a one-possession game with 41 seconds left on a natural three-pointer by freshman Michelle Dove (San Antonio, TX/Converse Judson). Leading 59-56, Guilford made five of six free throws in the final 37 seconds to put the game out of reach.

Guilford senior A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead) scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half and helped the Quakers to a 34-24 intermission advantage. Guilford turned 11 Marlins' turnovers into 18 points in the opening period and closed the first half on a 14-4 run.

Thurston paced the Marlins with 18 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Senior Devin Allen (Machipongo, VA/Northampton) added 13 points for Virginia Wesleyan.
