HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/19/03) -Hampden-Sydney's third-ranked lacrosse team earned a 13-5 victory over Old Dominion Athletic Conference-foe Guilford College Saturday at Fulton Field in the final game of the regular season

With the win, the Tigers (11-1/6-0) complete their second-straight undefeated conference season and will be the top-seed in next week's ODAC Tournament.

Junior Mike Lynch paced the Tigers with a goal and two assists, while Phil Dick, Zach Shaw and Matt Fassnacht each picked up a pair of strikes to lead the Tigers.  Dick scored twice, while Brett Polvinale, John Reisner and Fassnacht each found the back of the net in the first quarter to help the Tigers off to a 5-0 advantage.

The team eventually extended the run to 8-0 as Lynch, Fassnacht and Sean McChesney all scored goals within a minute of each other in the second quarter.  Guilford got on the board on Matt Wagner's first goal of the game with 5:41 to play in the second quarter, before the Tigers rolled up a 9-1 lead with Joe Frankoski's goal at the 2:53 mark.  Five seconds before halftime, GC's Rob Mallonee scored on a coast-to-coast run to shave the Tiger lead to seven, 9-2.

Both teams added a goal in the third quarter, as Dalton Grein scored for the Tigers and Won Hill for the Quakers.  In the fourth, Shaw added a pair of goals for the Tigers, while Jeff Mattie netted his first career goal. Wagner and Hill each scored in the fourth for Guilford, but the Tigers prevailed, 13-5.

Hampden-Sydney's Jeremy Bull, Peter Ellington and Matt Clark combined to post nine saves in the net for the Tigers, while Guilford's Aaron Skiles rejected 14 Tiger shots on goal.  The Tigers owned the advantage in shots, 43-18, ground balls, 57-32, and face offs, 14-6.
