Hampden-Sydney Rolls To 12th Straight Men's Lacrosse Win

Junior midfielder Phil Dick (Salem, VA/Salem) scored four times and junior attackman John Neal (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's) added two goals and two assists as Hampden-Sydney notched its 12th straight win with a 16-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) decision at Guilford Saturday.

The Tigers (12-1, 6-0 ODAC) are ranked fourth in this week's STX/United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III poll.  The loss ended Guilford's league season and dropped their overall record to 4-9 (0-6 ODAC).

Dick netted a pair of unassisted scores less than three minutes into the game before the Quakers knotted the contest with back -to-back tallies from rookie midfielder Eddie Massello (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Catholic) and sophomore attackman Josh Miller (Princeton, NJ/Princeton)Neal answered with two scores sandwiched around a Dick tally as the Tigers reeled off five straight scores to open a 7-2 margin early in the second quarter.

Miller paced the Quakers with four goals, three of which were set up by assists from rookie attackman Mark Fiore (Doylestown, PA/Bridgton Academy (ME)).  Freshman Aaron Skiles (Weirton, WV/Shattuck St. Mary's (MN)) made 17 saves, two shy of a career high.

The Tigers displayed a balanced attack that consisted of 11 different goal scorers, including sophomore attackman Tom FitzGerald (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock), who had two fourth-quarter tallies.  Sophomore goalie Jeremy Bull (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) made all five of Hampden-Sydney's saves in the second quarter.  The Tigers played without their leading scorer, junior attackman Chris Lucas (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock).

Hampden-Sydney, which clinched the top seed for this week's inaugural four-team ODAC Tournament, hosts Roanoke this Tuesday (04/23) in the semifinals.  Guilford closes its season at home versus Greensboro Wednesday (04/24) at 3:30 p.m.
