Guilford Snaps Skid With 13-11 Men's Lacrosse Win Over Shenandoah

Greensboro, NC -- Freshman midfielder Kentavius Jones (Easton, MD/Easton) scored a career-high five points to lead Guilford past visiting Shenandoah, 13-11, in men's lacrosse action Saturday. The win ends Guilford's (5-7) six-game losing skid.

A three-minute non-releasable illegal stick penalty on Shenandoah (2-9) freshman Brett Chamberlain (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley) proved pivotal as the Quakers tallied three times with the man advantage to start the second quarter. Freshman attackman Josh Miller's (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) second of three second-quarter goals with 9:26 left in the half ended a 5-0 Quakers' run and gave Guilford a 7-1 edge.

The Hornets responded with four of the next five goals, including two by junior attackman Matt Burton (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge), to pull within 8-5 at halftime.

Senior attackman Joe Krewson (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge) opened the second-half scoring with his second straight goal, which trimmed the visitors' deficit to 8-6. The teams traded goals for the rest of the half with Shenandoah never able to pull closer than two goals. Chamberlain's second goal of the game with 4:19 remaining provided the final margin, but two penalties in the final three minutes stymied the Hornets' comeback effort.

Guilford freshman attackman Chip Hill (Sellersville, PA/Central Bucks West) scored his first college points with three goals and an assist. He joined Miller and Jones as Guilford players with career-high goal totals. Senior midfielder Rusty Ollerhead (Timonium, MD/Calvert Hall) matched his career high with four points on a goal and three assists.

Burton finished with three goals and an assist for the Hornets. Sophomore linemate Chris Keller (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) led all scorers with a goal and four assists.
