Roanoke Downs Guilford in ODAC Men's Lacrosse, 19-5

Greensboro, NC -- Sophomore attackman Andy Bonasera (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) scored four goals and sophomore midfielder Joe Weeren (Winchester, MA/Winchester) added three tallies in visiting Roanoke's 19-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse win over Guilford Wednesday. Ten different Roanoke (7-6, 2-3 ODAC) players scored in Guilford's 52nd consecutive ODAC defeat, dating back to 1993.

The Maroons scored the game's first five goals, but Guilford (4-7, 0-6 ODAC) stayed close with three straight tallies. Freshman Rob Mallonee's (Baltimore, MD/Sandy Spring Friends) extra-man goal with 9:41 left in the second quarter pulled the Quakers to within 5-3.

Maroons' freshman midfielder Garrett Yaralian (Fripp Island, SC/Mt. Lakes (NJ)) answered with his first of two goals, an unassisted blast from about 13 yards out, and Weeren scored his second tally of the game to give Roanoke a 7-3 halftime edge. The goals started an 11-0 Maroons' run that carried into the fourth quarter. Bonasera hit for three goals in that time, including an extra-man score with 8:07 left in the game that capped the run.

Guilford freshman midfielder Kentavius Jones (Easton, MD/Easton) snapped the spurt with the second of his team- and career-high three goals at the 7:35 mark of the final period.

Roanoke sophomore Tim Morse (Santa Fe, NM/Tabor Academy), the ODAC's leading goalie, made nine of the Maroons' 11 saves. Guilford senior Anthony Roman (New York, NY/Mt. St. Michael's Academy) made 15 stops.

The Quakers close their home season this Saturday (4/21) afternoon versus Shenandoah at 2:00 PM. Roanoke ends its season Saturday (4/21) at home versus league rival Randolph-Macon at 2:00 PM.
